Achievements and Highlights for Higher Education SPROUT Project

From MOE’s Higher Education SPROUT Project ( 107-111 Academic Year), we have received NT$98,850,000 to better our education quality and students’ learning performance, along with the matching funds of NT$29,700,000. In line with our Academic Development Plan, we have regular meetings to check and assess the project process; we also continue to hold a university-wide presentation to display the project results and performance.  Below are the summary and highlights:

1.Implement Teaching Innovation and Improve Teaching Quality

The flexibility of interdisciplinary learning systems and a friendly interdisciplinary learning environment have been strengthened by opening cross-field micro-courses. The establishment of cross-field courses and micro-courses has also been highly supported. Since the 108 Academic Year, a total of 91 micro-credit courses have been opened, with a total of 2,413 person-times. In the 109 Academic Year, the three colleges successively launched the "Digital Technology Micro-course", "Medical Technology Micro-course" and "Smart Medical Care Management Micro-course", a total of 94 students completed the course, to increase students' willingness to take cross-disciplinary courses.

2.Develop Unique Characteristics of AEUST

Far East Group provides abundant industrial resources and creates unique internship advantages for our students. In addition to introducing inner-group resources from multiple parties, it also actively cooperates with industries in various fields. A total of 266 companies cooperated with internships in the 110 Academic Year, with a total of 752,419 hours of internships and a total of 1,288 students participating, which laid the foundation for students' future employment competitiveness. In the past five years, 223 industry-university cooperation cases have been established with Far East Group-related enterprises. Among them, our university cooperates with Far EasTone Telecom and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital to jointly exhibit 5G innovative applications, including 3D holographic projection remote intelligent diagnosis and treatment and 5G intelligent environment monitoring robot, etc., which perfectly exerts the synergy of Far East Group.

3.Enhance the Publicity of Higher Education

Since the 108 Academic Year, we have promoted the Study at Ease Project, in addition to improving our diversified counseling measures for economically disadvantaged students, actively promoting external fundraising mechanisms, with an average amount of NT$1.5 million. By doing so, financially disadvantaged students would be encouraged to regain their motivation and self-confidence.  In the past five years, more than 1,400 economically disadvantaged students have been supported. Among them, the students of the Department of Medical Management participated in the Study at Ease Project and self-study program to learn front-end web design and were successfully admitted to RETEX as front-end engineers upon graduation.

4.Be Committed to Social Responsibility

To fulfill University Social Responsibility, we have implemented 4 USR HUB programs and 1 USR program to assist in neighboring areas for information education, hearing impaired sports, biomedical electronics, and chronic disease care, and cooperate across departments and hospitals, as well as across schools and majors. From 109 to 111 Academic Year, there have been many fruitful results, such as the cooperation between teachers and students of the Department of Communications and Hsinchu Special Education, Hsinchu District National Primary School, and other schools to promote the application of sports technology internationally.
