2019 Information of the University
In 2019, Oriental Institute of Technology (OIT) proceeded the annual settlement in relation to the Higher Education Sprout Project conducted by Ministry of Education(MOE). OIT has received a NT$ 17 million grant for the project, a NT$ 2.2 million grant for USR (University Social Responsibility) project, and a NT$ 1 million grant for the promotion of higher education publicity. There was a grant implementation rate of 99.84% as a result. All the implementations were in accordance with the above-mentioned projects and school development strategic plans.
There are 7 sub plans covering the academic and administrative units. The meetings arranged by the project office are holding for the assistants and supervisors separately once per month to follow the evaluations of this project based on the qualitative and quantitative indicators. Furthermore, we also have discussion meetings for all school teachers three times each semester to propagate the performance and further prospects. In other words, the school aims at the main scheme of “4C of OIT” with a positive and practical attitude.
The summary and highlights of the implementation according to the project are as follows:
1. Communication
To enhance the good communication among the school departments, there are 15 teams built by the distinguished faculties who are outstanding in variety fields such as teaching, industry-academia-research cooperation, research, and counseling in our school - an increase of 87.5% relative to 2018. We can say that, with the support of internal mechanisms and the implementation of external procedures, a positive effect is achieved. Thus, there are 13 applications submitted by the faculties of MOE Teaching Practice Research Program - an increase of 15% relative to 2018 through the Mechanism. Moreover, the faculties and students cooperated to participate in variety of domestics and foreign invention completions. Our teams awarded the top prize, 3 special prizes, 15 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals of Kaohsiung International Invention and Design Expo - an increase of 11%.
2. Cooperation
In terms of the cooperation, there were 6 groups to participate talent cultivation on the basis of the project and cooperated with more than 10 off-campus units. From the perspective of industrial services, the team formed by the students cooperated with Taipei Veterans General Hospital and Industrial Technology Research Institute to implement independent study for the development of a rehabilitation patient database. Furthermore, in the light of teaching services, our faculties and students guided a couple of activities of artistic aesthetics in St. Louis Kindergarten and a nursing home. Besides, there were also several creative storytelling activities in Zhongzheng Elementary School to cultivate children's narrative and reading comprehension skills.
3. Creativity
The school is continuing to advance our teachers to carry out in depth researches and studies in the industry. In 2019, the faculties with industry experience accounted for 61.83% of all teachers, and 23.66% are in progress. In addition, it is expected to be 94.6% in 2022.
The school is continuing to start courses including International Relations, Globalization Issues, and Global Environmental Change and Sustainable Development in order to build up a global perspective for a total of 356 students; likewise we have 906 students interning off campus- an increase of 17.2%.
4. Consideration
In terms of activating the exchange of professional knowledge at home and abroad, there are various 8-week English internships in Malaysia, mainland China, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore according to the needs of the school departments. This year, the number of interns are 60 - an increase of 22.4%. In 2019, there were 9 exchange students who went to the University of Raman, Malaysia, and 4 international students from foreign countries for training and exchange. In addition, there was a MOU signed with Inter Education Consult (IEC) in Malaysia, and selected 6 teachers to study overseas in the summer of 2019. All the fruitful achievements were the outcome of efforts.
In the USR project, there was a MOU signed with Xinyi Elementary School of Banqiao District, Zhonghe Elementary School of Zhonghe District, and Leli Elementary School of Tucheng District under the witness of Jen-Hau Ou, the Chief Secretary of Education Bureau. There were 9 sessions in relation to APP design, mBot robot, and 3D printing.
This year, Ganyuan Elementary School has joined the project, and the implementation effect of this MOU was extremely remarkable.
